Hi Frank,

The way to basically gauge the position is by placing the vents center of the bottom of the end bell, another words , make sure the vents are facing down,

As for the bearings,

Please take a look at this video:

What Bearings Are In My A.O Smith Super Pump Motor?
http://wetheadpumprepair.com/what-bearings-are-in-my-a-o-smith-super-pump-motor/

You will need either ( 2 ) 6203 bearings or ( 1 ) 6203 and a ( 1 ) 6304 depending on your motor.

You can buy the bearings from our sister website ( owned and operated by us as well )

or you can buy them locally at a Grainger if you have one in town, its up to you :)

Here is that link, to the bearings we sell:
http://wetheadpumprepair.com/goto/shop/electric-motor-bearings/

Please let me know if you have any questions,

Dang... I didn't read you post closely enough. I popped the front plate off the motor before I marked it and the housing.

Is there any way to backtrack or determine the correct position.

I have not pulled the whole mechanism out, but it is about 1" out and I know it has moved a bit and doesn't want to go back in easily. So I knew something wasn't right and I immediately stopped and came to read this again.

FYI.. It was a bugger getting the impeller free. The ticket was the strap wrench to hold the impeller, and a LARGE slot screw driver head on an impact wrench.

Thanks in advance for your time and insights. Also, where do you suggest buying the bearings from? It's an AO Smith motor.

just put new bearings & seal kit in my ao smith pump motor. pump was squeeling & making rithmic rattle noise. the rattle has always been there. this is second time in four years i've replaced bearing & seal kit. first time i replaced impeller & housing that impeller is covered by. this time i replaced the impeller. rattle noise unchanged ? could it be waffer washer in back bearing area not causing proper pre load ?
thanks mike

Hi Robert,

What type of pool filter do you have? If it is a DE filter have you tried to backwash and clean it out?

Also - If you have a "multi-port" change the setting to "recirculate" and see if the pump then pumps, it the pump works on recirculate and not filter then you have a filter clog.

Please let me know if you need any additional help or have other questions,

Thanks for commenting and stopping by !

We have a Hayward superpump serving an inground lap pool, with suction from a skimmer and also the bottom of the pool. We lost suction about a week ago, and traced the air leak to a bad strainer cover gasket, ordered and installed another but still no pump action. With the pump off, the strainer basket fills with water - from the filter - and as soon as the pump is turned on, it pulls all the water out of the strainer, whic indicates to me that the pump itself is operational, but then nothing more. Water in the pool is mid-skimmer.
We are a long way from the nearest pool service Co. and they don't want to come our way without a hefty charge just for the transport. Can't blame them too much, what with fuel prices what they are but it doesn't help. Can you?

i was facing this pump broken down again issue. i just sent for repair about 2 months and the problem come back. the problem i facing is there are totally no vacuum and pumping! the air pressure is correct (4bars) and i checked there are no air leakage from any part. i try to open the front and back driver ( the long stick inside which can move left right/up down) and clean it and put a lubricant oil on it then fix back. but the problem is un-solve. any idea?

ps: the local agent ignore me :(
